Buxton Community School

Another excellent Anglo-Danish visit!

We have been thrilled to host two groups of Danish students here at BCS over the past fortnight.  Please read below details of the visit written by one of their teachers Susi Tribler:

A big Thank you to Buxton Community School from Frederikssund Private Realskole!

At the end of September and beginning of October, our Danish students travelled to England to improve their English and to experience the Peak District. During our visit, we stayed at the youth hostel in Edale. This year our group was bigger than ever with 96 students and 7 teachers.   The students were spread into smaller groups, visiting three schools.

The students attended school for one week and then did outdoor activities, such as caving, climbing and abseiling during the other week.  Whilst attending school, the Danish students  were each ‘buddied up’ with an English student who they followed during normal schooldays, attending classes and even wearing the Buxton school uniform.

In Denmark students don’t wear uniform  to school, nor do they call their teachers Mr and Miss, so the differences between cultures are visible and clear from the very first lesson.

At the end of the visit, Buxton students attending the programme, were invited to a party at the Palace Hotel with dinner and dancing.

Frederikssund Private Realskole is a private school north of Copenhagen with 745 students, from age 6 to 15. In Frederikssund we value foreign languages highly and during their education, it is part of the curriculum to attend two language courses, in England and France.  These foreign trips are with the intention of improving language skills and giving the students a cultural experience to enhance their understanding of the world - and hopefully find new friends abroad!

This is our second year in Buxton, and we are very happy and grateful for the opportunity to work with Buxton Community School.

Thank you Buxton from the teachers and students of Frederikssund Private Realskole!

BCS would also like to thank our Danish visitors (both the students and the staff) for being so enthusiastic and eager to get involved right from the first day.  We really value our relationship with Frederikssund Private Realoskole and look forward to seeing them again next year.
