Important information about the first day back at school and testing

Please see below timings for testing and return to school

Dear Parent/Carer

I am writing with a reminder of the back to school instructions I sent in the summer, although there are some slight changes to the starting times.  The school office is now open and ready to help with any queries.

From Monday 6th September testing starts for main school and second tests will be done for sixth form. School will re-open for face to face teaching of Sixth Form on Monday 6th September and all other students on Thursday 9th September at the following times. All main school students should attend in full uniform ready for a conventional school day.  (From now on full uniform should be worn each day and students will once again change for PE lessons. Lockers will once again be in use.)

  • Y7 – arrive at school at 8.50 am and go to the courts via the College Road entrance (Mrs Gelsthorpe will be sure that Y7s are made aware where the courts are when they come in for their testing at the beginning of the week.)
  • Y8 – arrive at school at 9.20am and go to the courts via the College Road entrance.
  • Ys 9 and 10 – arrive at school at 9.50am and go to their form rooms (Mrs Gelsthorpe will be sure that all students know where their form room is when they come in for their testing at the beginning of the week.)
  • Y11
    • 11BKR – arrive at school 8.45am – go to Temple Road for 2nd Covid Test.
    • 11WTH (10HWR) – arrive at school 9.10am – go to Temple Road for 2nd Covid Test.
    • 11WTH – arrive at school for 9.50am – go to Temple Road for 2nd test.
    • 11BTS, 11SCS, 11NCL (10WST) – arrive at school for 9.50am and go straight to form room.

Important. We cannot change the dates or times that are allocated for testing due the large number of students we are testing and the volume of tests and data that needs to be processed. It is important that as many children as possible are tested before they return to school on the 9th, if you have not yet sent your consent for your child to be tested please do so as soon as possible. The links have been published in previous letters and sent to you directly by email.

If your child is not tested, they may still return on the 9th September as planned.

Where to go for testing? All students should arrive at school 5 min before their allocated time via the Temple Rd entrance (next to the sports hall) where they will be met and taken to the testing centre.

Reopening school and testing of students

What this will look like for your child is that they will be given a specific time to arrive for a test. They will be held in a fully socially distanced, well ventilated large space whilst they wait for their test; they will then move through our testing centre and into a second space which is again fully socially distanced. They will then wait for their test results with their form tutors and pastoral leads, who will have the opportunity to check in with them, make sure they feel comfortable and safe about returning and work with them on the routines and structures they will follow when they come back to school. You should anticipate that your child will be on site for around 60-90 minutes in total before returning home. They will then return full time to face to face teaching on the 9th March (times as above). If your child tests positive we will contact you directly and arrange for them to be collected from school; if they test negative, they will be released from school to travel home. Please make sure you have arrangements in place to facilitate this.

Between Monday 6th September and Thursday 9th September, students are expected to access remote learning via ClassCharts when they are not attending school to be tested. Our subject teams have worked hard to create a series of videos for each subject which will outline the curriculum for the year ahead and clarify the learning behaviours necessary to be successful in each subject. For example, if your child is due to be tested on Tuesday, then they should remain at home on Monday and Wednesday and continue with remote learning before returning to school on Thursday.

Testing sequence

Students will be asked to attend by Tutor group, this means that you should use the information below to look up the correct tutor group for your child and ensure that they attend at the correct date and time shown below. If you are unsure which tutor group your child is in, please ask your chid as they should know. Alternatively, you can email us at info@buxton.derbyshire.sch.uk or you can call the school on Thu 2nd September to speak with someone directly.

Y7 parents only

Due to a technical issue we have been unable to forward the Y7 ClassCharts codes this week as previously advised.  We will instead be giving the children a letter with their code when they come in to be tested on Tuesday.  We appreciate this will give only limited time but please do go into ClassCharts once you have the code so your child can have a look at the work and get an idea of how this programme operates. There is no expectation that they will view all the uploads before school opens fully on Thursday.

Uniform

To avoid unnecessary wearing and washing of uniform, I am allowing all students to attend their testing session in non-uniform. Please make sure your child attends school in full uniform according to the uniform policy from Thursday 9th September. (As a reminder please find uniform sheet attached.)

Testing dates and times

Please note that our lateral flow tests are now the ‘nasal only’ test.  Please see attached booklet.

Please support us by providing consent and making sure your child attends school for the allocated session. Please remember: your child will be in school for a 60-90 min period on the designated test day and you will need to make sure they can safely travel to and from school.

All main school students will receive one further in-school test during a normal school day from the 9th September.

Take care

Craig Yates - Headteacher
