Another successful Danish visit
Action packed fortnight for our Danish friends
We are thrilled to welcome back our Danish friends from the Frederikssund Private Realskole .
Danish students begin learning English from the age of 7 and this school extends their education by providing a two-week language study programme in the Peak District, where students attend lessons with English 'buddies' at Buxton Community School, Chapel en le Frith High School and Hope Valley College. The Danish students spend one week in school and one week in Edale, where they do outdoor activities, such as climbing, abseiling, canoeing and caving. There is also a sports event at Chapel which all the students take part in and one of the activities is Tug of War. This is not a normal activity in Denmark and this year, for the first time, the Danish students were victorious!
Their weekend trips were spent at Warwick Castle and in Manchester, where British history was the focus.
Susi Tribler, one of the accompanying teachers, explained that having the chance to practise the language and experience the English culture first-hand is a great opportunity for the Danish students. She added that both staff and students learn many new things on each trip. The visit culminates with a party at the beautiful Palace Hotel. All the Danish and English students attend and a wonderful evening was had by all!
We look forward to seeing you again next year!
